A Personal Message from Sulayman Njie, CEO & Founder of 1Bena
When people ask me why I created 1Bena, my answer is always the same.
I didn’t build 1Bena to create another app.
I built it for The Gambia.
I believe every Gambian deserves services that are simple, reliable, and accessible.
I wanted to make everyday life a little easier—for the hardworking parent rushing home after work, the student chasing their dreams, the family needing medicine, the local restaurant looking for more customers, and the rider determined to earn an honest living.
I believed technology could bring all of these people together.
That belief became 1Bena.
Today, every order placed through 1Bena means far more than a delivery.
It means a local restaurant welcomes another customer.
It means a supermarket reaches another family.
It means medicine arrives when it is needed most.
It means a rider or driver returns home with honest earnings.
It means another Gambian business grows.
These are not just deliveries.
These are moments that strengthen our communities.
Like every growing company, our journey has not been perfect.
We have faced challenges, made mistakes, and learned valuable lessons along the way. Every customer message, every merchant conversation, and every delivery has helped us become better.
For that, I am deeply grateful.
What makes me proud is not simply seeing the 1Bena logo on our riders or our app on people’s phones.
What makes me proud is seeing Gambians support Gambians.
Seeing local businesses grow.
Seeing young people create opportunities.
Seeing families save time for what matters most.
That is the future I dreamed of.
My vision has never been to build the biggest company.
My vision has always been to build one of the most trusted companies in The Gambia.
A company that listens.
A company that keeps improving.
A company that genuinely cares about the people it serves.
